About Anne

A designer, educator and horticulturist

Anne Larson has worked as a gardener and horticulturist in the Des Moines metro area since 1999 when she spent the fall working in the test gardens of Meredith Corporation. 

From there Anne spent the next 15 years working for area landscape, maintenance and design firms. She led landscape maintenance care for a homeowners from 2000 to 2014 and came to love being the hands-on expert who met her clients needs. Whether the landscape was big or small, old or new, fancy or heirloom--she came to love the creative individuality of each beautiful space.

Anne is a trained communicator with a BA in English, and earned her BS in Horticulture from Iowa State University in  1999. She is hold professional certification with the Iowa Nursery and Landscape and as a Rain Garden designer.

She has written articles that appeared on national websites, a magazine on Iowa gardening and in blogs and posts for local landscaping web sites.

How does Iowa garden coaching work?

Depending on your needs, our work together may be just a walk through your garden talking through ideas to developing a full-scale garden plan. 

Sometimes the project may involve multiple visits to work through various phases. Our phone conversation will go a long way toward determining the shape of the project. The important thing to know is that it's a very flexible and fluid process!

Do you have staff that builds your designs?

No, we don't have staff at this time. All consulting, design and plant selection work is done between Anne and the client(s). If you would like help with creating a request for a proposal and getting bids, Anne can assist you. She also can recommend landscaping firms that may have specialties, such as stone, structural elements, water and woody plants and perennials or annuals.

What kinds of gardens can you work with?

Anne has experience with a number of garden styles. Shady woodland areas, native and pollinator plantings and rain gardens are some of the styles with which she is most experienced.

Whether your taste is formal or informal, and whether your budget is relative modest or larger, Anne can assist in developing a plan for one time planting or development over a number of years.
